A long connection at Istanbul Airport does not have to be spent in a terminal. With a private chauffeur and a route planned around your flight, six hours is enough to stand in front of Hagia Sophia and be back at check-in with room to spare. Any airline, any ticket, your own schedule.

This is the part most people get wrong. The number on your ticket is not the time you have in the city — three hours of it belongs to the airport.

About three hours in the city. Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque from outside, a short walk through the square, one coffee. No museum queues.

Around five hours. Adds the Spice Bazaar and a proper lunch, or one museum interior instead.

Three things to check before you book.
You are entering Turkey
Leaving the transit area means passing passport control, so your nationality must allow entry — visa-free or with an e-visa obtained in advance. Check your own status before booking; we cannot arrange entry permission.
Your baggage
Checked bags are normally through-checked to your final destination and stay airside. Hand luggage travels with you and can stay in the vehicle while you walk.
Same terminal, same airport
If your connection moves you between Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen, that transfer alone takes 90 minutes or more. Tell us in advance so the route is planned around it.
Your airline matters less than you think
This service is not tied to a carrier or ticket type. Codeshare, separate tickets, low-cost — none of it affects a private arrangement.

Step 01Send both flights
Arrival flight and departure flight, with terminals. We calculate the realistic window and tell you honestly what fits.
Step 02Route agreed
We suggest a route for the time available. You adjust it. Nothing is fixed until you are happy with it.
Step 03Met in arrivals
Your chauffeur waits with a name sign after passport control. If you want the queue shortened, fast track can be added.
Step 04Returned with margin
The return is timed to your departure, not to the end of the tour. We build in a buffer for traffic and hand you back at the terminal.
Step 05Settled in advance
The booking is paid as soon as it is confirmed — card, bank transfer or cash. Free cancellation up to twenty-four hours before departure.
There is a free option. Here is when it is not enough.
Turkish Airlines runs Touristanbul, a free group tour for its own transfer passengers with a six to twenty-four hour connection. If you qualify and the timing suits you, take it — we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
You are not on a TK ticket
The free programme applies to Turkish Airlines operated flights only. Other airlines and codeshares are not eligible.
The fixed times do not fit
Free tours depart on a set schedule. If your connection falls between departures, the window is lost.
You want your own route
Group tours follow a fixed itinerary. A private chauffeur goes where you want and waits as long as you want.
Comfort or company matters
Travelling with children, elderly parents, business colleagues or simply wanting a quiet vehicle after a long flight changes the calculation.
Your connection is overnight
Some connections land in the middle of the night. A tour that runs to a timetable cannot meet that arrival; a chauffeur booked to your own flight can.
You leave from the other airport
IST sits on the European side, Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian. A fixed programme is not built to deliver you to a different airport; a private route is planned around the crossing.
Priced by the hour, fixed before you fly.
A layover tour is an hourly charter rather than a point-to-point transfer, so the vehicle and chauffeur are yours for the whole window. Fuel, tolls and parking are included; museum tickets and meals are not.

About Istanbul layover tours.
What is the minimum layover for a city tour?
Six hours between landing and your next departure. Below that the airport procedures consume the whole window and there is no honest way to make it work.
Can I leave the airport during a connection?
Yes, provided your nationality allows entry to Turkey — visa-free or with an e-visa arranged before you travel. You pass passport control on the way out and again on the way back in.
What happens to my luggage?

What if my incoming flight is delayed?

Can you handle a connection between IST and Sabiha Gökçen?
Yes, and it changes the planning considerably — the inter-airport journey alone takes ninety minutes or more. Send both flights and we will tell you what is realistic.
How far in advance should I book?
Two or three days is comfortable. Same-day requests are often possible but depend on vehicle availability.
